My sculptural work consists of experimentation with organic materials such as plant matter, shells, rocks, dirt, wood, and clay in blatant contradiction to materials like cement, metal, and resin. Using silicone and plaster to make molds, I create life castings of the human body to maintain intricate anatomical detail. Within the casting process, I then relinquish control to the unreliability of the materials within the structured organic cast, as the materials settle and react to one another. I am then a bystander to the implications of my own creation, watching as the resin and cement form a chemical reaction texturally similar to hardened foam or as the calcium carbonate shells and plant material cause the resin to yellow and form air pockets. This process is an examination of the benefits humanity would experience in embracing nature and the converse perspective of humanity being the cause for nature's downfall.
